Connection & Performance

Check Your Connection

You can identify if you are connected to the servers by the Online Status Indicator visible in your display. Its look and location will vary depending on your chosen layout.

  • Green indicator checkmark: All changes have been synced to the server and your script is fully up-to-date and saved. In WriterSolo, green means that you have downloaded a file since the last time you made an edit, so the saved file is up-to-date.
  • Yellow indicator checkmark: All changes are saved to the local memory (whether it is your browser or the desktop app), but there are some that have not been synced to the server yet. When in offline mode, this will be the indication that it is saving offline properly.
  • Red indicator checkmark: There have been changes made that are not yet saved to either the local memory or the server.
    • Warning: DO NOT close out of the tab or app when this indicator is red or you may lose content.

I get a "You are not connected to the server," "Offline," or "Not saved online" message.

This means you are not connected to the server and your content is most likely not being synced.

If you are at all concerned about your connection to the server, we recommend first saving or exporting a backup of your work (WriterDuet or Final Draft files, as they will maintain your formatting the best).

Option 1Check Internet Connection Check your internet connection to see if there is an issue.

  • Turn wifi off and back on.
  • Reset your router.
    • You can also disconnect the ethernet from the wall temporarily to clear the ports. (Follow your provider's guidelines for troubleshooting internet issues)
  • Check your hotspot connection.

Option 2Caching If you are in the browser, this could be an issue with the app's or browser's cache.

  • In a separate private/incognito window, log in to your account to see if your content has synced correctly and your connectivity improves.
    • If it is, go back to your regular browser and log out and back in.

Option 3No Luck If you are still not having any luck, email us at help@writerduet.com with

The performance is slow and changes take a while to load.

The cloud-based functionality of the app is designed to track your work from the beginning of the process through to the end. This means that as you work, it is collecting a history of all of your edits and changes along with the full amount of content. The browser's or desktop app's cache is also collecting this information for as long as you are working in that window or tab.

The greater the length of time spent logged in through one tab, the more cache the browser is storing. The app performs best when given a chance to refresh.

Option1: Refresh the Page Twice Be sure you've got a green checkmark on the save icon, then give the page a refresh.

  • Let the first refresh fully load and then give it a refresh again
    • This will clear the cache that has been collecting.

Option 2: Log Out and In Be sure you've got a green checkmark on the save icon, then logout.

  • Got to Help > Logout
  • Log back in
    • Also logging back in through a new window or tab can be useful
  • An additional option is to clear your browser's cache
